St John's School
St. John’s School has always enjoyed close links with the church, and its foundation dates back over 280 years when an endowment from Mrs Ann Harris allowed for the education of forty children ‘in the faith and practice of the Church of England.' Everyone connected with the school is proud of this unbroken tradition of providing high quality Christian education within the community.
The school is the largest church aided primary school in the diocese. It aims to involve children, staff, parents and governors in developing a happy and caring environment in which each child feels secure and where Christian values are the context for all relationships and underpin the strong school ethos.
All children are encouraged to achieve their highest potential in all aspects of learning through the promotion of a creative and skills based curriculum. Experiences and opportunities are further enhanced and enriched through the excellent links shared with local secondary schools, educational visits and visitors, a broad range of extra curricular clubs and the regular ‘themed’ weeks enjoyed throughout the year.
The development of Learning to Learn strategies and a movement towards personalised learning has helped pupils to become more independent and responsible individuals who are able to make a positive contribution to the school community and society as a whole.
The educational environment is rich and children benefit greatly from the range of resources available. There is an active PTA who organise social and fund-raising events.
The pre-school ‘Stop and Play’ group meet regularly preparing children for their formal entry into school life.
